This window hanger starts from a wooden circle, from which selenite rods and small crystal glass pendants are suspended, with beads echoing the colours of the seven chakras. On sunny days the crystal glass breaks the light and scatters soft, coloured glints across the wall and ceiling – a living, moving ornament for the window.
About selenite
Selenite is the translucent, silky, fibrous variety of gypsum; a soft mineral that splits into long, fine rods. Thanks to its pale, moonlight-like glow it has long been a favoured ornamental stone. Tradition links it to the clearness of a space and to calm, and it is often called a stone of light.
The chakra colours
The beads of the pendants follow the colours of the seven main chakras. In Eastern tradition the chakras are regarded as subtle energy centres, points in the flow of life force along the body's central energy channel. Here they appear in a mainly decorative, atmospheric role: together the seven colours give a harmonious, cheerful picture.
Placement and care
It looks loveliest where sunlight reaches it – hung in front of a window or near a glass door. Selenite is a soft, moisture-sensitive mineral, so protect it from damp and knocks; a dry, soft cloth is right for cleaning. The hanging cord makes it easy to put up. It measures about 10 × 30 cm.
