A high-pitched aluminium tube
This wah-wah tube is approx. 27 cm long and 4 cm in diameter. The smaller size gives a brighter, more bell-like tone than its bigger sibling: the note stands out of the musical texture immediately, yet still rings on for a long time with rich overtones.
The wah-wah effect
One end of the tube is open. If you cover and uncover the opening with your palm or fingers after striking it, the sound lives on with an undulating wah-wah pulse. You set the rhythm of the covering, so the very same stroke can produce streams of sound with completely different characters.
Size and accessory
It measures approx. 27 cm in length with an outer diameter of 4 cm. One beater is included, so it is ready to play straight away. The instrument is made without a specific pitch, which means it can be added to music in any key without sounding out of tune.
Where it fits
It serves well as a highlighting colour on recordings, as an attention-grabbing effect in concert, and in a sound bath as a bright, shimmering layer above the deeper instruments. Its light weight makes it easy for children to handle too.
One size among several
This 27 cm tube fills the middle register of the wah-wah family. Below it sits the 32 cm deep version, above it the 17 cm mini, and a five-piece set in F pentatonic tuning is available separately. Place two or three side by side and you can switch registers with a single movement of the hand, building a layered, undulating surface of sound.
