Raised, open palm
Sitting cross-legged, he holds his right hand in front of the chest with the palm open and the fingers straight and pointing up, while the left hand rests in his lap. On Buddhist statues, a raised open palm is usually a sign of protection and reassurance.
Here the robe covers both shoulders, and the gold shows only at the centre of the chest and at the neck. This gives the turquoise more room than on statues that leave one shoulder bare. Seen from the front, the raised gold hand stands out against the turquoise robe.
Turquoise and antique gold
Glossy turquoise paint covers the robe, and fine dark lines trace its folds. The gold is darker in the small curls of the hair and in the hollows of the face, so the features stand out clearly. As it is painted by hand, the edges of the colours may vary slightly from the photo.
Finding a place for a 42 cm statue
A statue of this size fills a whole corner. On top of a low cabinet or chest of drawers, facing into the room, it can be seen from a distance. In many Buddhist homes a Buddha statue is given a raised place like this and is never put on the floor. If you meditate, a low table in front of your cushion can also suit it.
For indoor use only; keep it away from rain and frost. A soft, dry brush is all you need for dusting.
