The Muladhara: the chakra of roots
The Muladhara is the first of the seven main chakras, located at the base of the spine. In the ancient Indian yoga tradition, this chakra is the centre of safety, stability, survival and connection to physical existence. When the Muladhara is in balance, you feel safe in your body and move calmly through the world. The colour red and the earth element are associated with it.
The tuning of the fork
This tuning fork is tuned specifically to the frequency that harmonises with the vibration of the Muladhara. The deep, grounding sound can help your attention root itself in body and earth during a longer meditation or sound therapy session. You can strike the fork on an activator, then hold it near different points of the body and feel how the vibration spreads.
How you can use it
The fork is ideal for meditation, yoga practice, sound therapy and relaxation. You can use it at home, in a studio or outdoors. Many people find the Muladhara fork to be a good companion at the start of the day, when they want to establish stability, or after a stressful moment when they wish to return to themselves. More sensitive practitioners also feel the physical vibration of the sound in the body.
How to play it
Hold the fork's handle between your thumb and forefinger. Tap it onto the soft surface of an activator to start the vibration. NEVER strike the fork against hard objects, as this may damage the fine tuning. After it sounds, hold the fork near your ear or touch it to the lower part of your body, where the root chakra is located. Let the sound slowly fade.
Care and storage
Store the fork in a dry place, away from prolonged moisture and chemicals. Wipe its surface occasionally with a soft, dry cloth. If the metal discolours, you can use a gentle silver-cleaning cloth, but carefully, so the tuning is not affected. With proper care, the fork will keep its original sound for many years.
