K-549 tomato is one of the classic, reliable home garden varieties of Hungarian breeding. Determinate growth, mid-early ripening, low and compact — needs no staking. Fruits are cylindrical, 50–60 g, uniformly coloured, and drop free of their stems. Can be direct-sown, which makes starting much simpler.
Sowing
Sowing time: March in seed trays, or directly outdoors from late April. Transplanting: May. Spacing: 40×30 cm. Determinate growth means no side-shoot removal needed.
The fruits ripen in July–August, and the cylindrical shape is a plus for canning: less wasted space in jars. Easy to peel, so it's the perfect base for peeled tomato preserves and lecsó.
