Herodes tomato is a mid-early, high-yielding, indeterminate ox-heart type variety. The ox-heart type is known for its distinctive cone-elongated shape and especially fleshy, juicy, flavourful fruits. The indeterminate structure produces vines up to 2 metres tall, rewarding good care with continuous fruiting until the first autumn frost.
Growing the ox-heart type
Sowing time: March in seed trays. Transplanting: May. Spacing: 80×60 cm for the tall indeterminate plant. Staking or trellising is essential, and regular side-shoot removal is recommended — channelling all nutrients into the fruit by removing axillary shoots.
The fruits can be picked continuously from July–August until autumn frost. The fleshy structure makes Herodes especially suitable for salads, fresh tomato sandwiches and tomato gazpacho. A premium-quality choice for tomato enthusiasts who want the best traditional ox-heart flavour.
