Sound and character
The Tinka Tong Terra produces a warm, rounded and decidedly earthy sound. The six tongues tuned to a 432 Hz reference connect harmonically when played in any order, making it nearly impossible to play a wrong note. The combination of padauk and cherry wood gives a dense, full resonance — a hybrid between a wooden percussion instrument and a melodic chime. The 432 Hz tuning lends a slightly softer, more enveloping character that many therapists and meditation practitioners particularly value.
How to use
The Tinka Tong Terra is ideal for sound massage, yoga and meditation sessions, children's activities, and as part of the Feeltone Elemental Soundscapes instrument set. The practical hand hole on the bottom lets you cradle the drum in one hand while playing another instrument with the other. Designed to pair with monochords tuned in C and F, it is the most natural companion for those keys.
Why this product
If you are looking for a wooden tongue drum that is intuitive to play yet musically refined, the Tinka Tong Terra is an excellent choice. Its compact size makes it easy to travel with, while the rounded form is comfortable for longer sessions. The 432 Hz version is especially suited to practitioners who consciously work with this reference pitch or wish to keep their instrument collection harmonised in this tuning.
Care tips
- Always use the included mallets — they are matched to the wood and tongue thickness, and your warranty depends on it.
- Try bouncing, rolling and sweeping with the mallet to create rich soundscapes.
- Hold a mallet in one hand and play with your fingers on the other side for layered playing.
- Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight, and refresh the surface occasionally with a thin coat of hard wax oil.
- Do not sit on the drum or wedge objects between the tongues — the wooden tongues can crack.
