The treasure box tradition in Tibet
Tibetan culture has long known the idea of a treasure box - a small place where you keep the things that matter most. It may hold a photo of a loved one, a prayer, a cherished piece of jewellery, or a letter. This small box serves exactly that purpose, hand-made in Nepal with traditional Tibetan motifs.
The lotus on the lid - what the symbol means
The lotus on top is a symbol of transformation from darkness into light in both Buddhist and Hindu traditions. The flower roots in mud yet rises with pure, radiant petals. If you keep precious memories in this box, the motif can remind you that something beautiful can grow even from difficult times.
What will you keep inside?
The 15 x 9 x 9 cm interior comfortably holds rings, earrings and small necklaces. Many people store crystals, small mala fragments or prayer beads. Others use it for treasured letters, photographs or small gift cards. The size sits nicely on a bedside table, a chest of drawers or in a corner of a home altar.
Hand-made character and natural variation
Because each box is hand-crafted and hand-painted, small unevenness, subtle paint colour differences and tiny knots in the wood can appear. These are not flaws - they are part of the hand-work, and each piece is unique. The wood is durable and the paint is firm, but please keep the box in a dry place, away from direct water or long sun exposure.
How to care for it over the years
Wipe the box with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid strong detergents that can damage the paint and the wood surface. With long-term use it is worth opening the box from time to time to air the inside. If you keep delicate jewellery, you may place a soft piece of cloth inside so the wood and the jewellery do not rub against each other. Over the years the box develops a fine patina that only adds to its character.
