Character of the Ishana bowl
This Ishana singing bowl, around 16 cm in diameter, brings the distinctive beauty of hand-hammered Nepalese craftsmanship into your home. The outside is a deep matte black while the inside glows with warm bronze – except for the gently polished upper rim, which catches the light in a restrained way. Its gross weight of 775 g lets it sit firmly on a cushion or table, and the thicker wall produces a deep, long-sustained tone. We recommend it if you are looking for a calm, homely yet striking singing bowl.
The hand-hammering process
Every hand-hammered bowl is the result of a complete manual process. The raw materials – copper, tin and eight further noble metals (Ag, Ni, Cd, Ru, Pd, Pt, Cr, Mn) – are first melted in a furnace, then poured into moulds to create base discs of the correct size and weight. These discs are then carefully hammered into their final shape, one by one. Because each bowl is made individually, no two pieces sound exactly the same – yours will be one of a kind.
How to use it
The medium-size Ishana bowl is particularly well suited to meditation, sound work, yoga and relaxation sessions and therapeutic spaces. Struck with a mallet on a cushion it produces a deep, long-sustained tone, while a circular motion brings out a pleasant floating drone. Many people keep one in the quiet corner of a living room or in their meditation space.
A traditional companion
In Nepalese tradition, traditionally crafted Tibetan singing bowl have for centuries been considered companions for inner stillness, deeper attention and clearing the atmosphere of a room. Their deep vibration helps many people release tension in the shoulders and neck after a long day. (This description is based on tradition and personal experience, not on medical claims.)
Good to know
Because singing bowls are sorted by weight, the 16 cm diameter is an approximate guide and small variations are natural. A separate mallet is needed for play and is not included in the package.
