The roughly 50 cm rim is the most serious De-Wa category in our range. You receive a hand-finished bowl whose tone unfolds slowly, gradually and then stays in the space for long seconds. Together with this its weight and its handling demand a serious commitment.
Where this size fits
We recommend it to you for colleagues running their own sound practice, for yoga studios and meditation centres. In a home environment it will only be truly enjoyable if you have a separate, quiet practice room and want to use it regularly in sound work.
Placement, support, safety
Set it on stable, solid furniture, on a thick, good-quality sound bowl cushion. Two people should move it together, holding the rim from both sides. We do not recommend frequent moving: because of its mass even a small inaccuracy may cause damage. The surface and its final place should be well prepared.
Playing, slowly, with patience
Use a heavy, leather-wrapped mallet. Guide it along the rim with even pressure, slowly, and reckon with the clear hum taking 10-15 seconds to come together. If you miss the angle, lift the mallet and begin again. Long practice leads to the real experience.
Long-term use
Wipe only with a dry, soft cloth. Never use a scratching sponge or chemical agent. The patina forming on the surface over time is a part of its character and a natural mark of use. With a piece of this size it is especially important that it stand in its permanent place and that you touch the rim only for playing. Once a year it is worth having it looked over with a specialist's help, especially if you hold regular sound work sessions. With proper care you may receive the same slowly unfolding, deep fundamental for decades, and your practices always gain the same calm frame.
