What you get with the De-Wa 31 cm
The De-Wa family brings the sound world of contentment to your home. The roughly 31 cm rim produces a full, deep fundamental, slightly more substantial and lower than its 29 cm sibling. You receive a wider sound range that almost wraps around the space.
When it is most useful
It fits longer, quieter meditation sessions best, when you wish to settle more deeply into your attention. At the end of a yoga class, after twists and stretches, it helps your body to grow still. It works well for evening relaxation and breath focus, and your family will quickly come to enjoy its base tone.
Placement and cushion
The 31 cm size is a heavy piece, so a stable surface and a soft pad matter. First lay down the sound bowl cushion and then lift the bowl onto it with two palms. The table or stool should be level so that the fundamental tone does not distort.
Mallet choice and playing
It is worth keeping two mallets at hand: a wooden-tipped one for cleaner taps and a leather-wrapped one for the long, sustained circular hum. Run the mallet along the rim with even, medium pressure and notice how the sound gradually grows. After a few minutes of practice you will surely find the right speed.
Care and longevity
Wipe with a dry soft cloth and avoid chemical cleaners. The fine patina that appears on the surface over time is a value: a natural mark of use that belongs to its individual character. Years later you will still surely receive the same deep fundamental, provided you use it carefully and regularly. Because of the traditional hand-finished work each piece is unique in small details, and this variety also gives the sound its own flavour. Keep it away from damp rooms and direct sunlight, and rather than moving it often, find a permanent place for it in the room.
