The voice of the De-Wa family
In Tibetan tradition the name De-Wa expresses a state of contentment and inner peace. The bowl you receive, with its approximately 29 cm diameter, voices exactly this calming mood. When you draw the wooden or leather-wrapped mallet around its rim, you get a deep, long-sustaining vibration that gradually fills the room.
What we recommend it for
It is a fitting choice for home meditation, for the opening or closing of a yoga session, for a quiet evening of rest and for relaxation. Its tone helps your attention turn inward, and you will more easily let go of the tension carried through the day. If you offer massage or sound sessions, your clients will also enjoy a pleasant base experience.
Size and handling
The roughly 29 cm rim is already a substantial size: it can be comfortably held with two palms and stands stably on a soft cushion or sound bowl pad. Its weight is noticeable, so we suggest placing it on a firm, smooth surface and putting the cushion under it first before lifting the bowl onto it.
Playing it step by step
First tap the side of the bowl gently with the mallet so that you can hear the fundamental tone. Then move in a slow, even circle along the rim with medium pressure. After a few seconds a continuous hum develops. If the tone breaks up, slow down a little or lift the mallet and start again.
Care and storage
Wipe it with a dry soft cloth after use, and avoid chemical cleaners. Store it on a cushion or shelf, away from direct sunlight and damp rooms. Slight discolouration on the underside is a natural mark of the traditional hand-finished work, not a flaw.
