The small starter of the Csö-pa family
The name Csö-pa recalls a focusing, signal-like sound of Tibetan tradition. The roughly 10 cm rim gives a clear, higher chime: a fine, few-second ring that easily turns into focused silence. You receive a light piece that fits the palm.
What we recommend it for
You may use it for desk meditation, breathing practice, a children's yoga session, or simply to mark the rhythm of the day at home. Many of our colleagues place it at the start of their teaching: a single tap signals that the session begins and attention gathers.
Size and handling
The roughly 10 cm rim fits easily into a palm. You can freely hold it in your hand while playing, or it can also stand on a small, soft sound bowl pad. You may put it on a desk or shelf at any time; its weight is light and it can be moved safely.
Clear tap, fine circling
Tap the side of the bowl with a wooden-tipped mallet: you receive a clear, high chime. If you wish for a longer ring, then circle the rim slowly with a fabric-wrapped mallet. After a few tries you too will surely find the right angle.
Simple care
Wipe with a dry, soft cloth after use. Do not use chemical cleaners. Small traces of hand work on the surface are natural and part of the traditional finish. Because of its small size it is worth storing it wrapped in a soft cloth on the shelf, so that it does not bump into other objects. If a child plays with it under supervision, always place it on a round, smooth tabletop so that it cannot roll away. Years later you will receive the same clear, high chime, provided you handle it carefully and the rim is not exposed to impact or moisture.
