Character of the large Chaken bowl
This Chaken singing bowl is made for those who love deep, present sound: approximately 25-27 cm in diameter, with a gross weight of 2125 g, hand-hammered bronze that glows warmly inside and meets a darker tone on the outside. The sound is remarkably pure and yet rich with overtones – a single strike fills the room for a long time, and a circular motion produces a deep, floating drone. We recommend it if you are looking for a bowl for sound massage, group sessions or a larger room.
Hand-hammered bronze
Chaken bowls are made using a traditional Nepalese technique: the metals – copper, tin and eight noble metals (Ag, Ni, Cd, Ru, Pd, Pt, Cr, Mn) – are melted in a furnace, poured into discs, cut to the right size and then shaped one by one by hand-hammering, with 4 to 5 discs stacked together and heated red-hot. This is what gives the Chaken its characteristic dense, sustained tone and its individual appearance. No two bowls sound exactly the same.
How to use it
The large Chaken bowl is well suited to sound massage, group meditation, yoga halls and therapeutic spaces. After a soft strike it holds its tone for many seconds, which is why many people choose it for ceremonial openings of quiet time. At home it works best in a spacious living room or studio.
A traditional companion
Nepalese craftspeople have long regarded large, deep-toned bronze bowls as helpful companions for creating a balanced, clear atmosphere. Many people find that the deep sustained hum supports relaxation of the shoulders and back after a busy day. (These descriptions are based on tradition and personal experience, not medical claims.)
Good to know
Singing bowls are sorted by weight, so the 25-27 cm diameter is an approximate guide. A separate mallet is required for proper sound and is not included in the package.
