Sound and character
One side carries 30 bass strings, the other holds 20 bare overtone strings and 4 tambura strings (D, d, d, a). The monochord side delivers soft, floating overtones, while the buzzing fifths of the tambura create a deep, ancient atmosphere. Slipping the jiva threads under the strings brings the tambura to life.
