The Sona Master size 2 short gong mallet (grey-coded) comes into its own when the practitioner or musician is seated close to the gong: meditation ritual, close-quarters sound massage, small studio. The shorter shaft carries the same master-grade head but is built for compact playing positions.
Specifications

- Head coding: grey
- Recommended gong diameter: 50–80 cm
- Shaft: short wooden shaft with counterweight (~28–30 cm)
- Head: Webpelz synthetic fur

Sound character
Head and counterweight mass match the long version, so the character is identical: full fundamental, long sustain, controlled overtone structure. The shorter shaft asks for a tighter range of motion – in return it gives a more precise strike from close in.
Typical uses
Seated meditation, small studio work, sound massage over the client, the travelling practitioner's kit. Especially when the gong room is too small for a full circular swing.
Why the short version?
- Compact reach: works in tight spaces.
- Master head quality: identical tone to the long-shaft version.
- Designed for seated play: reliable even at a low wrist angle.
Handling tips
If you prefer to play standing or from a distance, the long version is more comfortable. With a short shaft, strike slightly from the side so the motion isn't pinched in front of your hand. Store dry; never head-down.
About Sona Sounds
The Sona short series was developed at the request of practitioners doing seated sound work; built in the same Pulowi workshop as the long-shaft version.
