Hand-carved soapstone incense holder with sun motif
The Soapstone Hamsa Incense Stand 9x6 cm Sun is a solid soapstone holder hand-carved in traditional Indian workshops. The 9 cm diameter, 6 cm high tray is designed for safely burning incense sticks and cones, with the central sun motif symbolising renewal, vitality and inner light. Every piece is the result of hand work, so the stone's shade, veining and carving details vary from one item to the next. Soapstone has a soft, slightly waxy surface and has been used in Indian carving traditions for centuries. Its talc and chlorite content make it easy to shape while remaining heat-resistant, which is exactly what an incense tray needs. The stone distributes the heat of a smouldering stick evenly, so the tray stays safe to handle throughout a session. The sun is one of the oldest symbols of life, awareness and fresh starts. Placed on a desk, a reading nook or a meditation shelf, it works as a quiet reminder to begin each day with clarity and warmth.
How to use
Insert the end of the incense stick into the central hole and tilt it slightly towards the middle so it stays stable. Light the tip, wait a moment, then blow out the flame to let it smoulder. The ash falls into the recessed bowl, keeping surrounding surfaces clean. Cones sit directly on the centre of the tray in the same way. Keep the burning incense on a flat, heat-resistant surface and away from curtains or papers. At the end, make sure the ember has fully died down before leaving the room.
Care and placement
Dust with a dry cotton cloth and sweep out the ash regularly with a small brush. Occasional wiping with a barely damp cloth is fine, but avoid soaking the stone or using harsh chemicals. Protect from knocks and drops, as soapstone is soft by nature. The compact 9 cm footprint and 120 g weight sit nicely on a side table, nightstand, bookshelf or altar.
