Suede-covered strikers are among those that give the softest, warmest tone. The red colour makes this variant easy to recognise as a distinctive piece. You receive an accessory that can be used well for both opening and closing strikes and for slow rubbing. In our experience it also offers a safe entry into sound work for home practitioners, and you will quickly find your own rhythm with it.
Why suede
The suede surface is elastic and yet sufficiently resilient. When striking the bowl it does not give a sharp, hard tone, but a round, slightly veiled vibration. In continuous rubbing it starts the tone more slowly, but in exchange you get a very pleasant, slowly unfolding base tone.
When to use it as a striker and when as a rubber
Use it as a striker when you want a clean, rounded tone. Use it as a rubber when you want to draw a continuous resonance rich in higher overtones. Switching between the two refines the arc of your session.
Size and pairing
This version is made in a medium size and suits many kinds of bowls. If you would like to know exactly how well it fits your bowl, write to us with the diameter and we will help you choose.
Care
Keep it in a dry place. The suede surface can easily be dusted with a dry cloth. Avoid water and a hard brush, because these can ruin the covering. Over time the suede wears slightly, and this does not impair the sound at all.
Package
We ship the striker on its own, without a singing bowl. If your bowl does not yet have a striker and you would like a slightly softer tone at home, this is a safe choice for you. Please contact us with any question.
