What is this striker for?
This striker is specifically made to produce a long, deep, sustained fundamental tone when circled along the rim of a singing bowl. You may choose it if your existing striker is worn or lost, or if you would like a second striker for family members or guests. It works equally well as a replacement part and as a practice tool.
Why a velour cover?
The velour cover is soft and low-friction, which means the striker glides evenly along the metal rim of the bowl. This avoids sharp, knocking sounds and lets the bowl reveal its own deep fundamental tone. Compared with hard wooden or leather strikers, velour produces a noticeably softer, warmer sound, which is why many people prefer it for meditation.
How to use it correctly
Hold the striker with your thumb and middle finger, roughly in the middle. Touch the rim of the bowl with light, even pressure and circle slowly around it. After a few seconds, a deep, gradually growing tone arrives and fills the room. If the striker jumps on the rim, slow down and reduce the pressure until the surface glides evenly again.
Which size of bowl does it suit?
The striker is best suited to small and medium singing bowls, approximately 10–20 cm in diameter. For larger bowls above 25 cm, many people add a longer, heavier striker as well, because those need more energy to start. If you are unsure which to choose, this one is a good general-purpose striker that works well with the most common bowl sizes.
Storage and lifespan
Store the striker in a dry place protected from dust, ideally next to your singing bowl so it is always at hand. Do not wash the velour cover with water, as soaking can change its surface properties. For dust and small particles, a gentle brush with a soft brush is enough. With proper care, the striker will serve you reliably for many years of meditation practice.
