The wooden stick is one of the oldest tools for playing singing bowls. It is made from a single solid piece of wood, without any covering, so that the hard surface meets the rim of the bowl directly. You receive a simple, reliable accessory that will serve you for a long time.
How you can use it
Mainly you can draw a continuous resonance by rubbing it around the rim of the bowl with a slow, even motion. It can also be used as a striker, in which case you get a shorter, sharper tone. More experienced practitioners alternate between the two to build the texture of a sound bath.
Why it is worth choosing bare wood
Suede- or felt-covered mallets produce a softer, quieter tone. Bare wood, on the other hand, sounds the bowl definitely and holds the vibration particularly well during continuous rubbing. Those who prefer a cleaner, more clearly audible base tone choose this version.
Grip and technique
Hold the stick around the middle, loosely, without squeezing. Lead it around the rim of the bowl on the outside with slow, even pressure. If the tone starts to whistle, slow down a little. After a few tries you will feel the right pressure and speed.
Care
Keep it in a dry place. If the surface becomes slightly rough, you can carefully smooth it with fine sandpaper. Do not treat it with oil, as that can change the character of its sound. With proper handling it remains your favourite companion for years.
Size and weight
This version suits longer, medium or larger singing bowls best. For a small hand-held bowl we recommend the smaller variant, which is easier to handle. If you have a question about the choice, write to us and we will help.
