The deep, coal-black surface of the shungite sphere is matte and mysterious; a stone that carries the Earth's earliest age, polished into a sphere.
About shungite
Shungite is a black, coal-like rock more than two billion years old. Its structure lies between the amorphous state and graphite, and it consists mostly of tiny, spherical carbon particles, including a special carbon form called fullerene (type II, 50–90% carbon). It is mined in Karelia, Russia, where it has been used to purify water since the time of Peter the Great. Tradition regards it as a stone of protection, and many keep it near as a symbol of stepping back from electronic noise.
Good to know
The sphere is about 4 cm in diameter. It is supplied without a stand, so it can rest on any holder or ring. As a natural stone, the surface and shade are unique to each piece.
Care
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Shungite's matte surface does not like prolonged moisture.
