A sack that received a second life
This shopping bag is made from real, used rice sacks in an Indian craft workshop. The original printing and colour of the sack stay on, so every piece is unique – the pattern, the placement of letters, sometimes even the shade differ. You take home a bag that previously carried food, and that will now accompany you to the market or shop for many years.
Hard-wearing for weekly market trips
The polypropylene fabric of the original sack is highly resistant: it has already carried heavy potatoes, jars of tomato or one-litre water bottles, and it keeps its shape under load. The stitching runs in two rows and the handles are strong woven webbing – which is exactly why our customers like to use it weekly for the market run.
Easy to fold and to clean
When not in use, the bag folds down to a small size and fits easily in a handbag or car boot. If it gets dirty, you can wipe it inside and out with lukewarm water and a little mild washing-up liquid – no need to put it in the washing machine, which is gentler on the lining and seams. This means you can use the same piece for years.
Size and capacity
The bag is designed for a medium-to-large grocery run. It fits a weekly portion of vegetables and fruit, two or three drink bottles, or two larger loaves of bread – the handle length is comfortable on the shoulder. Avoid loading it above 8-10 kg to keep the stitching in good shape for longer.
What to keep in mind when choosing?
Because each bag is made from one specific sack, the print, the colour and the pattern will differ from the photo. Treat it as a surprise piece – that is the main charm of this type. It comes from India and is hand-made, so small asymmetries and stitching marks are natural features, not faults.
