A small image of the eternal dance of the universe
Shiva Nataraja is perhaps the most recognisable motif of Eastern art: the king (raja) of dance, a symbol of the eternal motion of the cosmos in Hindu tradition. This 4 centimetre, hand-cast brass version is made by Indian craftsmen who have been creating these tiny brass figures for generations. The classic dance posture is clearly visible: the raised leg, the outstretched arms and the circle of flames surrounding the figure.
Why is Shiva Nataraja special?
According to tradition, Shiva is the god who tears down the old to make room for the new. The Nataraja form shows that this destruction and rebirth actually take place inside one great dance. Those who bring this statuette home often do so not for religious reasons but because the motif looks beautiful on a bookshelf and reminds them that every “ending” is also a “beginning”.
Size and workmanship
The piece is only 4 centimetres tall. It is remarkable how much detail comes through at this miniature scale: the outstretched arms, the raised leg, the upswept hair and the surrounding circle of flames are all recognisable. The warm, honey-coloured brass glints softly in candlelight – perfect as a small shelf ornament, a desk companion or a travel keepsake.
What do you receive?
A single mini Shiva Nataraja statuette, hand-cast in brass, in a vibrant fabric bag. The bag serves as a gift wrap and also protects the statuette if you would like to take it on a journey.
A few small notes on care
Brass darkens with time – this is entirely natural, and many people particularly love the patina that develops. To restore the original golden shine, polish gently with a soft cotton cloth and a drop of brass polish. Protect from strong chemicals and constant moisture.
