Selenite Tumbled Stone – Polished, Moon-Like Stone

Selenite (satin spar) tumbled stone: a whitish, silky, moon-like soft polished stone, approx. 1.5–3.5 cm. Tradition knows it as a stone of clarity and meditatio

A whitish, silky selenite, whose soft glow recalls moonlight – it is no accident that it bears the name of the moon goddess.

What selenite is

The stone sold as selenite is most often satin spar, the fibrous, silky form of gypsum. True selenite is more transparent, while satin spar is whiter and silkier. It takes its name from the Greek moon goddess Selene, for the moon-like shimmer when light passes through it. Gypsum is a soft mineral (Mohs ~2) and sensitive to water.

In tradition

Tradition holds selenite as a stone of the third eye and crown chakra, and sees it as a support for meditation, focus and clarity. Many know it as a symbol of gently clearing space and mood – a stone of light and calm.

A natural product – each piece is unique

Tumbled (polished, rounded) stones are made from natural mineral, so the size, shade and pattern vary from piece to piece and may differ from the photo. A typical stone is about 1.5–3.5 cm, with a smooth surface that sits easily in the hand. Selenite is soft and water-sensitive: keep it in a dry place and avoid moisture so its silky sheen lasts.

Use and care

Many hold it in the palm during meditation or quiet reflection; others keep it in a favourite corner, on the desk or in a bag. The polished stone can be cleaned gently with a soft, dry cloth.

The meanings and properties described rest on tradition and on the experiences of those who work with stones; they are not scientific facts and do not replace medical advice.
