A warm, earthy flame that makes it easy to arrive in the present. This scented candle is made in the spirit of the first chakra, the root chakra – evoking a mood of stability, safety and being grounded.

The root chakra in tradition

The chakra tradition places the seven main energy centres along the spine. The first, at the base of the spine, is the root chakra, known in Sanskrit as Muladhara; tradition associates it with survival, safety, foundations and grounding. Its traditional colour is red. This tradition pictures the centre as the root of stability – the place from which a person stays connected to the ground, to the body, to the firm base of everyday life. The candle gives that earthy mood a light; it promises no fact and no effect.

Material and design

The candle has a stearin/paraffin base with a fragrance composition suited to the chakra, set in glass. It measures roughly 20 × 3.7 cm and burns with a steady, quiet flame. The red colour and warmer scent evoke the theme of the root chakra, and it works well as the opening piece of a seven-chakra set.

How to use it

Ideal for grounding meditation, yoga, or simply for creating a calm corner that feels good to come home to. The chakra candles are lovely as a series too: the seven centres can be followed from the red root chakra up to the violet crown. Trim the wick before lighting and set it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

Good to know

Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from flammable objects, children and pets.
