This is a 15 g pack of Satya incense sticks in a lime-green box marked 7 Chakra. The scent is warm and gently sweet, with spicy and woody notes. Made in India, the box is 22 cm long and 4 cm wide.
Seven chakras, one scent
Indian tradition holds that there are seven chakras, or energy centres, running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel. Today they are marked with the colours of the rainbow, from red to violet. This incense is a good one to light for meditation or before yoga, when you sit down in quiet.
Light it a few minutes before you begin, so the scent has filled the room by the time you settle. If you sit on the floor, don't place the holder right in front of you. Put it a step away, to one side, so the smoke does not drift into your face. A small ceramic dish under the holder keeps the ash off the rug.
Satya, from Bengaluru
Satya was founded by K. N. Satyam Setty in 1964, and the brand takes its name from him. The box still carries the name and address of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya in Bengaluru, who make the sticks.
Before you light it
Light the tip, blow out the flame and stand the stick in a heatproof holder. Stay in the room while it burns and open a window. Keep it away from children and pets.
The large box in the photos is the outer pack. You receive one 15 g pack. The ingredient list shows vanillin, coumarin, Yara Yara powder and fragrance. We also have stones and candles in the seven chakra colours, if you would like to set up a small meditation corner.
