Sound and character
The 21 cm version is feeltone's standard santoor mallet. Its longer reach gives more swing, and the wood-felt head sounds the strings clearly and definitely. Ideal when you want to add rhythmic, melodic contours on top of a sound carpet.
How to use
Hold the mallet loosely between index and ring fingers. The flexible carbon shaft springs back, letting you play the percussive side of the strings, much like a hammered dulcimer. Use one mallet for rhythm, two for continuous melody.
Why this product
The standard 21 cm length gives the right balance for average and larger hands. The wood-felt head delivers a sharper, more defined tone than the leather-felt variant, so melodies cut clearly through the sound field.
Care tips
- Use two mallets for continuous, wave-like play.
- Experiment with hand position: softer near the centre of the strings, brighter near the bridge.
- Lay the mallet flat after use so the carbon shaft does not deform.
