Sandstone is a sedimentary rock shaped over millions of years, and that is exactly what gives this soap holder its warm beige tone and pleasant touch. Indian craftsmen hand-finish each piece into a 14×9 centimetre rectangle, just 2 centimetres tall – discreet enough to sit on any vanity top or shower edge, yet solid enough to hold a larger bar.
Why choose stone over plastic?
Plastic soap dishes get grimy quickly, and metal ones tend to rust under constant moisture. Sandstone, on the other hand, is porous: it gently drains and absorbs the water that gathers under the soap, so the bar dries faster, lasts longer, and does not stick. The four black anti-slip pads on the bottom protect your countertop from scratches and keep the holder firmly in place.
Which soap fits best?
This size was designed for the classic handmade soaps between 100 and 250 grams – including olive oil and Aleppo soaps, cold-pressed natural bars, and most goat milk or honey varieties. A larger bar rests comfortably on top, with room around it for the water to flow off.
Care and cleaning
Sandstone is a natural material, so every piece is unique: the pattern, shade and fine veining may vary slightly – this is not a flaw, it is the mark of authenticity. Rinse it under lukewarm water from time to time, or brush off soap residue with a soft brush. Avoid harsh chemicals or scouring agents, as these can dull the surface. After long use the stone may take on a faint trace of the soap's fragrance – many people find this a charming detail.
What to keep in mind when ordering
Since sandstone is a natural material, the shade may differ slightly from the photo: a lighter or deeper beige, sometimes with small darker specks. The piece weighs nearly half a kilo, so it arrives safely packed in a cardboard box.
