The compact, bushy San Marzano tomato is the home-garden form of the Italian classic — mid-late ripening, bushy growth, so it needs no staking. The fruits are long, cylindrical, 100–130 g, deep red with rich flavour. Suitable for fresh eating too, but the variety's true strength is in canning and Italian cooking.
Growing
Sowing time: March in seed trays. Transplanting: May. Spacing: 60×50 cm. Thanks to the bushy form, no staking is needed — the plant stands upright on its own.
The fruits ripen in August. Typical uses: pizza sauce, tomato sauce for Italian pasta, peeled tomato preserves. The dense, low-seed flesh makes preserving especially economical — less water content means more concentrated flavour in every jar.
