SALUS — low-growing, mid-early tomato with cylindrical 60–80 g fruits, especially recommended for canning and preserving, easy to peel.

SALUS tomato is the modern update of the classic K-549 type. Low-growing (80 cm), mid-early ripening, with slightly elongated cylindrical fruits weighing 60–80 g. The fruits ripen uniformly and drop free of their stems, making harvest faster. Suitable for fresh eating, but the variety's true strength is in canning and preserving: easy to peel, perfect for peeled tomato preserves, sauces and lecsó.

Growing guide

Sowing time: March in seed trays. Transplanting: May. Spacing: 50×40 cm, sowing depth 0.5 cm. Direct sowing also possible — a great advantage if you want many plants without raising seedlings indoors.

The fruits ripen together in July–August, allowing a concentrated harvest — a real plus for canning. A medium-sized plot can produce a weekend's worth of preserves in one harvest. Peeled SALUS tomatoes make excellent Hungarian-style tomato sauce, lecsó base and home-canned whole tomatoes.
