Sound and character
The 55 cm is the largest round drum in the series, and it speaks with an authority to match: the deepest fundamental, the longest sustain and the widest overtone range. The large horsehide surface lets you experience the centre's body-deep vibration and the rim's clearly articulated percussive layers at the same time. Even a quiet touch produces a serious, clear voice — the sound carries itself. Natural variation in such a large hide makes every example arrive with its own character.
How to use
The 55 cm is mainly for performance, community and group-leader use: larger rooms, community ceremonies, full-moon events, concerts, mood-setting for longer sound massages. Play on a stand, seated on the lap, or standing with a strap. The included leather mallet opens the full ceremonial depth; fingers and palms allow finer percussive work.
