Sound and character
The 40 cm is the classic, immediately recognisable ritual drum voice: deeper fundamental, full midrange and a clear, slightly longer sustain. A 7 cm frame adds genuine body, so the drum projects well in a room. Horsehide gives a round, dark and calming centre, while the edges yield brighter, more percussive tones. Every drum sounds slightly different because of the natural variation in hide thickness and pattern.
How to use
The 40 cm is the favourite size for many practitioners: ideal for shamanic journeying, full-moon ceremonies, sound work, song circles, drum circles and therapeutic work. Play with the included leather mallet for a full ceremonial tone, or with fingers and palm for finer rhythmic textures. It speaks clearly in group settings, since its voice carries.

Care tips
- Store at stable, moderate humidity — sudden dryness or moisture changes skin tension.
- Warm the skin with your palm before playing for a fuller tone.
- In cooler, damper conditions the tone becomes softer — this is normal and reverses once the drum returns to its usual environment.
- Never insert objects between the lacing — pinching hazard.
- For transport, ask for a matching padded bag.
