Sound and character
At 30 cm, this is the smallest and therefore highest-pitched round drum in the series. Horsehide is thicker along the back and thinner toward the belly, so a single membrane already offers a varied playing surface: rounder and fuller in the centre, brighter and more percussive toward the edges. The compact size produces a fast attack with a slightly drier, shorter sustain than the larger sizes, while still carrying well in a room. Each drum sounds unique because the skin is a natural material.
How to use
The 30 cm size is a favourite for ritual practice: light, easy to hold one-handed for long stretches, and well suited to children or smaller hands. Use it for shamanic journeying, meditation, song circles, women's circles, and therapeutic work. Play it with the included leather mallet or directly with your fingers and palm — the two approaches reveal completely different voices. Great for travel as well, since it stows easily.
Why this product
If you want a serious ritual drum that you can hold and play for long sessions without strain, the 30 cm is the best entry point. Light yet deeply voiced, with a real ceremonial tone in a compact body. Hand-built construction, natural materials and hard-wax oil finish make it a long-term companion.
Care tips
- Store at stable, moderate humidity — sudden dryness or moisture changes skin tension.
- Warm the skin briefly with your palm before playing for a fuller tone.
- A soft skin sounds dark and deep; in dry conditions it becomes tighter and brighter — this is normal behaviour.
- Never insert objects between the lacing — pinching hazard.
- For transport, ask for a matching padded bag.
