The 50 cm kit belongs to the larger, deep-voiced ritual drum category. The frame arrives raw with a saw-cut surface, leaving the build and finish to your own decision. The complete package contains the cowhide lacing needed for tensioning and the leather strip for the handle — the only element you need to add yourself is the beater stick, traditionally found in the forest.
Sound and character
The 50 cm diameter delivers a deep, hollow, long-resonating fundamental. Cowhide produces a full vibration that remains clearly audible in larger spaces and outdoors. The voice is weighty and serious, particularly suited to support deeper meditative states and trance ceremonies. The low frequencies vibrate in the body and create a distinctive grounded sensation in the listener.
How to use
Recommended for community ceremonies, as a companion instrument in sound bowl and sound therapy sessions, for guiding shamanic journeys and for larger drum circles. The 50 cm size is comfortably held and played with both hands; it works best seated, but with a firm grip it can also be played standing. It is especially well-suited to leading groups, because its voice naturally takes the lead.
Why this product
The larger size gives serious tonal range, while Feeltone materials ensure durable, professional quality. The building process becomes a personal ceremony, and the finished drum is a companion for decades. Many therapists and sound artists choose precisely this size for its deep, projecting voice.
Care tips
- Because of the larger diameter, take more time over even tensioning of the hide.
- For soaking, use a vessel large enough that the skin does not crease.
- Store the drum upright or face-down, and never place a heavier object on top of it.
- Before playing, check the head tension by touch — if loose, warm it gently.
- Clean only with a dry, soft cloth — never any chemical agents.
