Sound and character
The fifth string is the second carrying voice of f-tuned feeltone monochords: tuned to c, this wound string forms a clean fifth above the f fundamental, filling the base sound of the instrument with a particular clarity and openness. The brass winding produces a warm, round tone that blends beautifully with the fine vibration of the instrument's overtone strings.
How to use
Replace the string when its sound has turned dull, metallic or buzzy, when you can see wear on the winding, or when the string has broken. feeltone designs these strings specifically for its own instruments, so you should stay with the factory replacement. Release the old one, remove it, thread in the new one and bring it slowly and evenly up to c.
Why this product
Because you only get back the open, uplifted character of the f fundamental if the fifth string also speaks accurately. A non-original part with different mass and tension easily makes the overall sound duller or harsher. If you want your instrument to speak the way it did when new, you should choose this string.
Care tips
- Tune gradually and never push past the target pitch.
- The bare ends are sharp, work carefully when you uncoil the string.
- Retune the new string often during the first days.
- Unopened sealed packs may be returned.
