Sound and character
The fifth string is the second carrying voice of D-tuned feeltone monochords: tuned to A, this wound string forms a clean fifth above the D fundamental, enriching the deep, floating base sound of the instrument. The brass winding gives a warm, full tone and supports that sense of being surrounded and held by the sound.
How to use
Replace the string when its sound becomes dull or buzzy, when you can see wear on the winding, or when the string has broken. feeltone designs these strings for its own instruments, so to preserve the original sound you should stay with the factory replacement. Release the old string, remove it, thread in the new one and bring it slowly and evenly up to A.
Why this product
Because the character of a monochord is shaped not only by the main strings but also by the tension of the fifth string. If you want to preserve the original, gently floating sound image of your D-tuned instrument, you should use this factory-matched string.
Care tips
- Tune gradually and avoid overshooting the target pitch.
- The bare ends are sharp and can cause injury as you uncoil the string.
- Retune often in the first days while the new string settles.
- Unopened sealed packs may be returned.
