Sound and character
The brass tambura string delivers the floating, overtone-rich character that defines the monochord. Brass speaks more softly than steel, with a slightly warmer and rounder ring — exactly the sound Feeltone monochords are designed for. Tuned to C, it provides a deep grounding fundamental that the rest of the instrument naturally builds on.
How to use
A replacement string for the MO-46GK and MO-54T models when the original string has broken or lost its ring. Restringing is part of the regular care of any monochord; a fresh string needs a few days to fully settle in.
Why this product
Feeltone calculates and produces strings specifically for their own instruments — length, gauge, and material composition are matched precisely to the instrument's resonance. Strings from other makers can change the sound character, so to keep the original tone clean we recommend using only Feeltone original strings.
Care tips
- Before swapping, photograph how the original string runs over the tuning peg — it makes refitting much easier.
- Bring the new string up to pitch gradually and expect to retune over the first few days.
- The bare string ends are sharp metal — mind your fingers when unpacking and fitting.
- Returns can only be accepted if the seal is intact.
About Feeltone
Feeltone is a craft instrument workshop in Lassan, northern Germany, founded by Ingo Böhme. For more than two decades they have built monochords, sound beds, sound chairs, and ceremonial drums for therapists, sound artists, and meditation practitioners. Every instrument is hand-made from sustainably sourced timber and finished with natural treatments such as hard-wax oil.
