The stone of red jasper
Red jasper is a dense, opaque chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz), its warm red colour coming from iron oxide (hematite); its Mohs hardness is around 7. Tumbling brings out its deep, full red and subtle patterning. In crystal lore it is known as a stone of grounding and vitality, and tradition links it with the root chakra, perseverance and willpower.
The tumbled form
Tumbled stones gain their smooth, rounded surface through long polishing, which makes them sit pleasantly in the palm – a favourite as a pocket stone and meditation piece. This selection is mixed A/B quality: as a natural mineral, each piece can differ in shade, pattern and clarity, and every stone is unique. Pieces typically range between 0.5 and 2.5 cm.
