Red Bush Digestion — Rooibos Herbal Tea in a Gift Tin

Red Bush Digestion is a carefully balanced rooibos-based herbal blend, crafted for those who want a soothing, gently warming cup after a hearty meal or at the end of a busy day. South African rooibos (also known as red bush tea) is naturally caffeine-free, softly sweet, and provides an ideal base for the classic digestive herbs and spices: fennel, star anise, green anise, peppermint and linden in harmonious balance.

What is rooibos?

Rooibos is an endemic South African shrub (Aspalathus linearis) whose leaves are fermented to a reddish-brown colour. Unlike traditional black tea, it contains no caffeine and almost no tannin, making it gentle on the stomach, enjoyable in the evening, and safe (diluted) for children. Its naturally sweet character makes it pleasant even without added sweeteners.

What do these digestive herbs do?

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) has been valued for centuries for its digestive support, particularly for easing bloating and fullness. Star anise and green anise bring a sweet, licorice-like aroma, also traditionally used for digestive comfort. Peppermint offers refreshing, cooling brightness, while linden blossom adds a lightly floral, calming note.

Flavour and aroma profile

The aroma is warm, sweet and subtly anise-like — reminiscent of a Mediterranean spice garden. In the cup, rooibos's soft, velvety foundation opens, lifted by the sweet-spicy character of fennel and anise. Peppermint brings a fresh, cool lift through the middle, and linden provides a gently calming finish. Wonderful after meals, and equally lovely as a standalone ritual.

Who is it for?

Ideal for those who: want a gentle after-meal cup; have sensitive stomachs and avoid caffeine; enjoy a calming evening ritual; would like to offer a herbal tea to children (diluted); or are expectant mothers looking for a natural herbal blend (in consultation with their doctor).

How to brew it

Use 2–3 grams of tea per 200 ml of water at 95 °C, steeped for 4–5 minutes. Rooibos doesn't turn bitter from over-steeping, so 7–10 minutes is fine if you want a stronger cup. A spoon of honey or a drop of lemon complements it beautifully, though it's also satisfying on its own. For children, use half strength (1 g / 200 ml) and serve lukewarm.

The premium tin

The 50-gram airtight metal tin (6.5 × 6.5 × 7 cm) protects the herbs and rooibos from light and moisture, preserving aroma and herbal character. Its elegant, discreet look feels at home in any kitchen. Ready as a standalone gift or part of a thoughtful wellness set.

How to enjoy

Drink 10–15 minutes after lunch or dinner to help relieve feelings of fullness. It's also lovely 30 minutes before bed — linden and peppermint gently support the wind-down before sleep. Prepared cold in a jug, it's a refreshing summer drink, especially with a slice of lemon and mint. For a cosy evening ritual, warm a cup of Red Bush Digestion with a splash of oat or almond milk — the rooibos becomes wonderfully creamy, and the anise notes turn almost dessert-like. If you travel frequently, the compact tin fits easily into a suitcase, and the blend is especially welcome after heavier meals abroad. Rooibos is also naturally low in tannins, so it won't stain teeth as readily as black or green teas.
