Sound and character
The oval shape opens up a very particular sound world: two different axes create different resonances, so the drum cannot be tuned to a single fundamental — instead, a complex, richly coloured tone emerges. Deep, carrying, yet nuanced — a favourite for shamanic and ceremonial use.

Build an oval frame drum, ceremonial drum or shamanic drum with this hide. The oval form sits comfortably in the hand and is easier to play for longer sessions. The size refers to the wooden frame — the hide is larger, leaving plenty for the lacing on the back.

Oval drum hides are rare and only produced by traditional small workshops. You receive an authentic hide cut in Germany, carefully selected, and the same quality base used for Feeltone's own drums.
Care tips
- Soak in lukewarm water until pliable and easy to shape.
- Stretch evenly along both axes — the oval form needs extra attention.
- Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Feeltone is a craft instrument workshop in Lassan, northern Germany, founded by Ingo Böhme.
