Specifications

- Origin: Germany, hand pre-cut
- Use: for oval frame drums
Sound and character
The oval drum has a unique voice: because the long and short axes differ, the skin releases different overtones depending on where you strike it. The cowhide brings the warmth, and the oval shape adds the curiosity — a single drum that holds several voices.
How to use
The oval shape is the most ergonomic among traditional shaman drums: it sits naturally in the hand or lap. The skin arrives pre-cut, so you do not need to measure or trim the oval — just soak and lace it onto the frame.
Why this product
You get the raw material for a distinctive, ergonomic drum that is visually and sonically one of a kind. Cutting an oval is a serious challenge for many drum makers — we solve that for you by delivering the hide in exact size.
Care tips
- Soak the hide for 3-5 hours so it softens evenly.
- Lace with attention to both axes of the oval, so the tension does not distort.
- Try several striking points — the centre and the rim sound different.
- Store at stable humidity.
