Specifications
- Material: raw split cowhide (thinner layer), small-scale German sourcing
- Diameter: 90 cm (extra large; size refers to the frame, hide includes the feeltone overhang)
- Weight: approx. 900 g
- Origin: Germany, hand-cut
- Use: for extra-large, easier-to-play frame drums
Sound and character
The split 90 cm hide is softer, more sensitive and more breathing than its full-thickness sibling. The huge fundamental remains, but the voice becomes airier and finer, and the drum responds more easily to touch. Especially loved in sound-therapy contexts where size needs to meet subtlety.
How to use
For large ceremonial drums where easier voicing and fine dynamics matter. The 90 cm diameter brings monumental presence; the split hide opens room for delicate playing. Soak and lace as usual.
Why this product
You get the raw material for a deliberately sensitive, very large drum. This is a conscious choice: if your drum is meant for sound therapy or meditation, the split version supports that purpose with its finer dynamic range.
Care tips
- Soaking takes 5-7 hours since the layer is thinner.
- Lace cautiously and in stages so the skin does not over-stretch.
- Let the drum dry for 4-6 days, slowly and away from drafts.
- Soft, stroking gestures reveal the beauty of the voice.
