Specifications
- Material: raw split cowhide (thinner, lighter layer), small-scale German sourcing
- Diameter: 65 cm (size refers to the frame; hide is larger with the traditional feeltone overhang)
- Weight: approx. 650 g
- Origin: Germany, hand-prepared
- Use: for large frame drums with an easier-to-play voice
Sound and character
At the same diameter, the split cowhide gives a finer, softer and more responsive voice than the full-thickness version. The fundamental is brighter, the overtones more airy, and the drum responds quickly to a light touch. Perfect when you want delicate dynamic work on a large drum.
How to use
For large frame drums that should be easier to sound and more dynamically sensitive. Especially valuable in sound-therapy work, where the drum needs to answer the lightest touch without overpowering the room. Pre-cut and ready to lace.
Why this product
You can choose the lighter split version: the same 65 cm size with a finer character. This is not a downgrade from the full-thickness skin — it is a deliberate sonic choice for those who want a softer, more airy voice.
Care tips
- The thinner hide soaks adequately in 3-4 hours.
- Lace gently to avoid over-stretching.
- Soft, stroking strikes bring out its true character.
- Store at stable humidity so the thin fibre does not dry out.
