Printed Thangka – Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), 29 × 20 cm

Printed Chenrezig thangka with brocade frame, 29 × 20 cm, made in Nepal, in a cardboard tube. Recommended for a meditation corner or above an altar.

Who Chenrezig is and what the Buddha of compassion expresses

Chenrezig, known in Sanskrit as Avalokiteshvara, is one of the most important figures of Tibetan Buddhism, revered as the Buddha of boundless compassion. Tradition holds that he watches over every suffering being until the last one is liberated. Those who choose this thangka often do so because they want a reminder that compassion is not merely a feeling but a practical, everyday conduct.

Nepalese craftsmanship and arrival in a cardboard tube

The thangka is made in Nepal, where thangka painting and printing is a multi-generational tradition. The central image is printed and the surrounding decoration is provided by a brocade frame. The packaging is a cardboard tube, which is advantageous because the thangka arrives rolled and crease-free – ideal for gifting or longer storage. The full size is 29 × 20 cm, and it weighs 34 grams.

Where we recommend placing it at home

Many people hang it in a meditation corner, above a small altar or on a quieter wall of the bedroom. It also looks good in a reading corner because the gentle, inward-turning character of the image supports settling down. Due to its small size, it does not dominate the space; rather it is gently present, and the eye finds rest on it easily. If you give it as a gift, the cardboard tube makes both posting and unpacking simple.

Details of the image and the brocade frame

In a Chenrezig depiction you will usually recognise the four arms, the lotus throne and the peaceful expression. The brocade frame accompanies the central figure with traditional Tibetan colours, meaning a gentle alternation of yellow, red and blue tones. The silken texture of the brocade warmly reflects the warm yellow light of an evening reading lamp.

Care, lifespan and long-term preservation

The printed colours are durable if you avoid direct, strong sunlight and prolonged damp environments. Against dust, a gentle wipe with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth is enough; avoid cleaning agents and wet wiping because of the brocade. When moving, roll it gently back into the cardboard tube and wrap it in paper rather than plastic; this way the thangka will preserve its appearance for many years. One piece arrives in the package, the listed price is per piece.
