The best-known triad: C major
This Power Chimes set is tuned in C major, with the notes c4, e4 and g4. C major is the simplest, most instantly recognisable harmony: clean, bright and neutral. If you are choosing an instrument like this for the first time, this tuning is the safest starting point.
The three notes: c4, e4, g4
Struck one at a time the bars give three separate notes; a single sweep produces a blended chord. All the notes come from the same harmony, so there is no wrong order and no combination that can sound out of tune.
Beech holder, 440 Hz
The bars are held in a beech holder measuring 17.5 x 6.2 x 3.5 cm, which doubles as a handle. Thanks to the 440 Hz reference pitch the set can be played together with piano, guitar or voice.
In school, studio and therapy
C major is the key used most often in music lessons, which makes this set ideal for accompanying singing. On a recording it adds a fine shimmer, and in a sound therapy session it works as a closing or attention-focusing sound. One movement and the room fills with long-ringing overtones.
From a triad to a full octave
If three notes eventually feel too few, the same range offers an eight-bar set covering a whole C major octave, plus further three-bar versions in F and G major, in A minor and in a neutral a3-e4-a4 arrangement. The holders share the same size and grip, so switching between them stays a familiar movement.
