Glossy black obsidian beads make up this petite bracelet. The natural beads are about 6 mm across on an elastic cord, and it is about 17 cm long. You receive one bracelet, made in China.
Volcanic glass on your wrist
Obsidian is volcanic glass. It forms when lava cools so quickly that it has no time to crystallise. Early people knapped sharp blades and arrowheads from it, and in Mexico the Aztecs polished it into mirrors.
A golden sheen on black beads
The beads are black and glossy. In bright light, as you turn the bracelet, some beads show a golden brown sheen, which is why this variety is also called golden sheen obsidian. The strength of the sheen differs from bead to bead.
Obsidian is said to be a protective stone. Being black, it suits formal wear and dark clothes, on a man's wrist or a woman's.
Size-wise it is meant for a wrist of 15–16 cm, where the 17 cm bracelet sits comfortably. On a thicker wrist the cord would be stretched.
Protect it from knocks
Obsidian is glass, so if it knocks against something hard, such as a tap or a table top, the edge of a bead can chip. Take it off before washing up or working in the garden.
When putting it on, don't stretch it hard; roll it over your hand so the cord keeps its stretch for longer. Kept in a separate pouch, the glossy surface is less likely to scratch.
Dust and fingerprints show more on black beads, so wipe it now and then with a soft, dry cloth.
