Petite Gemstone Bracelet – Amethyst, 6 mm Beads

Amethyst bracelet with translucent purple 6 mm beads on an elastic cord, about 17 cm long. Its Greek name means not drunk.

Translucent purple amethyst beads line this petite bracelet. The natural beads are about 6 mm across on an elastic cord, and the bracelet is about 17 cm long. There is no clasp. You receive one bracelet, made in China.

Purple quartz in translucent beads

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. The beads are translucent, and held up to the light they show deeper and paler bands of purple. Some are a dark plum colour, others a paler lavender.

A name from ancient Greece

The name comes from the Greek amethystos, meaning not drunk. The ancient Greeks believed the stone protected against drunkenness. Today many people see it as the stone of meditation and reflection.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February, so it is a popular present for anyone born that month. Its purple comes from traces of iron in the stone.

Keep it out of the sun

Strong, prolonged sunlight can fade amethyst's purple over time. So don't leave it on a sunny windowsill; keep it in a drawer or jewellery box instead.

Being hard, it resists scratches well, but a bead can chip if it knocks against a door frame or a tap.

At about 17 cm, the bracelet suits a wrist of 15–16 cm and sits looser on a slimmer wrist. The cord gives a little, which makes it an easy choice as a present.

Leave it off for swimming and showering, and don't stretch it hard when putting it on. If you wear several bracelets, the purple sits nicely next to rose quartz and clear quartz.
