The source and the certification
Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) grows in the dry forests of Peru. The wood is collected only from naturally fallen branches – no living trees are cut down – and this is certified by the Peruvian National Forest Service (SERFOR). Your choice therefore does not put pressure on the forest.
How to use the sticks
Take a stick, hold it over a heat-resistant dish and light its tip. Let it burn with a flame for 20 to 30 seconds, then gently blow it out. The tip starts to glow and the fragrant smoke begins to rise slowly. When you are done, lay the stick on sand, salt or a heat-proof plate and the ember will fade on its own. The unburnt part can be used again next time.
What kind of aroma to expect
The smoke of Palo Santo is softly sweet with hints of citrus and dry wood. It is friendly and not overpowering – nice for a morning routine, a calm evening of reading, or simply a more welcoming feeling in the room after airing out. Many describe it as a softer, friendlier cousin of frankincense.
Storage and safety
Keep the bag dry and away from direct sunlight. You may also store the sticks in a closed box or glass jar to keep the aroma fresh even longer. Never leave a glowing stick unattended, keep it away from children and pets, and ventilate the room from time to time.
