Origin and gathering
Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) is native to the dry forests of Peru. These small sticks are made only from naturally fallen branches – no living trees are cut – and this is certified by the Peruvian National Forest Service (SERFOR). You can also see the information printed on the side of the pack.
How to light it
Take a stick, hold it over a heat-resistant dish and light the tip. Let it burn with a flame for 15 to 25 seconds, then gently blow it out. The stick begins to glow and releases a soft, sweet, slightly citrusy-woody smoke. When you are done, place it on salt, sand or a heat-proof plate – the ember fades on its own and the leftover part can be lit again later.
Storage
Keep the pack dry and away from direct sunlight. Once the foil has been opened, it is worth transferring the sticks into a closed glass or metal container so the aroma stays fresh for longer. Never leave a glowing stick unattended and keep it away from children and pets.
