A slicker brush for dogs and cats. Its rectangular head is 9 cm wide and packed with fine metal pins, set into a pale, flexible cushion. The frame and the long, rounded handle are dark brown wood with a visible grain. It is 16.5 cm long overall and weighs about 70 g. Made in China.
Loose hair and small knots
The dense metal pins pull shed hair out of the coat, and with careful strokes they work small knots loose as well. The medium head is easy to use on the back, the sides and the legs.
The head is smaller than a big dog brush, so it is easy to handle on a cat or a small dog. The long handle keeps your hand away from the coat, which makes it comfortable on a bigger dog too.
How to brush with it
Work with short, light strokes in the direction of the coat, and don't press hard against the skin, as the fine pins can scratch. Don't pull at a bigger knot; hold it at the base and tease it apart a little at a time.
Pull any hair caught in the brush out of the pins with your fingers before you carry on.
If your dog is new to being brushed, start with short sessions of a few minutes and praise it afterwards. Don't put the wooden handle and frame in water; a damp cloth is enough.
For short and long coats
According to its packaging it suits short, medium and long coats. If your dog or cat has a long coat, brushing it several times a week helps stop knots growing large. On a short coat you can reach for it less often.
